Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

Here's a test for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of scary movies: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like standard biological terror, but beneath Together exists a intense contemplation about our choices in loving one another.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for over ten years. Married in reality in 2017, the two stars bring a particular energy to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the countryside for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s primarily where the tropes conclude. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a strange force begins influencing the pair. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in bits of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He dreads the notion of totally forfeiting his sense of self in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he can’t drive and needs Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions a decade in. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They find humor with each other, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of codependency and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory avoids being overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for staying single. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could act as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your partner and say, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on today.

Together is streaming on Hulu now.
