19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
